A warm-coloured pheasant steps along a stone wall with a sprig of holly in its beak, a festive scene taken from Hannah Dale's watercolours for Wrendale Designs. The snowy background is already printed on the fabric, so only the bird and the details are stitched: the work grows quickly and keeps the soft washes of the original painting.
Alongside cross stitch you will use back stitch for the outlines and French knots for small details, both covered in the instructions. A frame is not included: you will need a square frame for mounting, and a hoop or stretcher frame is handy while stitching.
