Five penguins lined up in cable-knit jumpers and scarves, standing in front of a background that echoes Fair Isle knitting: artwork by British illustrator Emma Ball, turned into a cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads. The Aida is printed in full colour, so alongside the chart you always have a guide for placing the stitches.
As well as plain cross stitch the design uses fractional stitches to soften the outlines, back stitch for the details and French knots, so a little experience helps. A frame is not included, nor is a hoop, which is handy for keeping the fabric taut. Once finished, the piece looks good framed in landscape format.
