A blue tit caught mid-movement, with an egg floating beside it and its call written out by hand: a small, light-handed design from the garden birds series drawn by Madeleine Floyd.
It is worked from a counted chart, with cross stitch for the bird's body and backstitch for the legs, lettering and finer lines; the French knots cover the tiny details and take only a few tries to master. The hoop included doubles as the frame, so once the stitching is done you simply tighten the fabric and tidy the back to hang it straight away. The modest size makes it easy to carry around and a thoughtful gift for a birdwatcher.
