Four panels follow the first days of a newborn hedgehog: tucked into a basket with a bow, on a patchwork quilt, in a hammock under a daisy and among the building blocks. The line underneath, to be stitched with date, name and weight, turns the piece into a birth record for the nursery wall or a gift for new parents.
It is worked in counted cross stitch from the chart, with back stitch for the outlines and French knots for the small details; the alphabet and number line is there for the personal details. A frame is not included: a hoop or frame is handy while stitching, and once finished the piece can be laced over board or taken to a framer.
