One of Margaret Sherry's hens, with the gentle humour her designs are known for: the wording running round the edge is part of the chart and is stitched as it is. The Aida is blank, not printed, so the stitches are counted from the chart — a good choice if you have tried cross stitch at least once before.
Alongside the cross stitch there is back stitch for the outlines and a few French knots, both covered in the instructions. A hoop and a small pair of embroidery scissors make the work easier. The round design suits a circular frame, though it can also be made up into a cushion or a small kitchen picture; the frame is not included.
