The design is printed straight onto the canvas, so there is no counting: you simply follow the colours under the needle, working diagonal stitches that all slant the same way. The stitching covers the whole ground, which makes it quick to see progress and gives a firm, hard-wearing piece — ideal for a cushion that will actually be used. A roller frame helps keep the canvas taut.
Backing fabric and finishing materials are not included: once the stitching is done you will need fabric for the reverse, piping or trim if you like, and a cushion pad. Bothy Threads also sell a square velvet tapestry backing kit separately; the panel can equally be framed.
