A group of red poppies in full bloom, with seed heads, slender stems and a butterfly coming in to land: a Rose Swalwell design worked in long stitch, where long vertical stitches sit side by side and cover the canvas far more quickly than cross stitch.
The outline is already printed on the canvas, so there is no counting involved: you follow the marked areas, while the diagram shows how to place the stitches and how to couch the stranded cottons over the wool. Threads, needle and instructions are all in the box; a frame or stretcher bars make the stitching easier, and a picture frame for the finished piece is chosen separately.
