Esther Rust belongs to Village Life, the Tilda collection that looks back to old wallpapers and pretty vintage dresses. The print is small and densely packed, with a rust ground holding together the pinks, ochres and pale blues: from a distance it reads almost as a solid, which makes it handy for the small pieces of a quilt, for linings, bindings and for the clothes of fabric dolls.
It sits well with the other autumn fabrics in the collection, from the greens to the teal, and brings life to a bag, an apron or a cushion. Pre-wash the fabric before cutting, so that the slight shrinkage happens before you sew; choose one of the larger cuts if you need long strips.
