Flora Mustard belongs to Songbird, the collection Tone Finnanger drew after a trip to Venice, taking Art Nouveau decoration as a starting point and retelling it in a lighter, naiver way with dusty pastels. Pink blooms wind through mustard leaves on a pale ground washed with soft blue, in a dense print that covers large areas well.
It works for quilt backings and borders, cushions, bags, pouches and Tilda dolls, since the small-scale motif still reads clearly on little pieces. It pairs easily with the solids and dotty prints of the same collection, which pick up the mustard and pink. Pre-wash the cut before sewing, so that the slight shrinkage happens first.
