Mae Blue belongs to Village Life, the Tilda collection inspired by old wallpapers and pretty vintage dresses, here in the colder blue and burgundy palette. The print is small and evenly spaced – one of the blenders of the range – so it gives the larger prints in a quilt room to breathe, while working just as well on its own for linings, drawstring bags, cushions, dolls and little dresses.
Because the motif is small and has no obvious direction, it cuts with very little waste and sits happily next to the other fabrics in the collection or beside plain cream and red. Pre-wash the fabric before cutting, so the slight shrinkage happens before you sew. For long strips or a quilt backing, choose one of the larger cuts.
