Three owls posing for Halloween: the one in the middle wears a witch's hat, an orange moon with bats hangs behind them, and autumn leaves and a cobweb sit at their feet. The design comes from a watercolour by Hannah Dale for Wrendale Designs, and the speckled background is already printed on the fabric, so that soft painted effect needs no stitching.
As well as cross stitch, the design uses back stitch for the outlines and French knots for the details, so it suits stitchers with a little experience. The threads arrive sorted by colour on an organiser, ready to use; a hoop or frame and small sharp scissors will make the work easier. A picture frame is not included: once finished, the piece can be framed or made into a cushion.
