A horse walking towards the viewer, its mane and tail painted in rainbow colours against a softly washed pink and yellow background: the contrast between the dark body and the bright locks comes from the shading of the stranded cotton. Alongside cross stitch, the design uses half cross stitch and long stitch to soften outlines and stretch out the hair.
Evenweave is usually worked over two threads, like linen, so this is a good step up for anyone moving on from Aida to a finer weave. You will also need a hoop or frame, small scissors and good light; the frame shown in the photo is not included, so the finished piece can be custom framed or mounted on a wooden stretcher.
