Description

A large panel by Marjolein Bastin that gathers all four seasons into one piece: each framed section is given over to a time of year, while a border of flowers, insects, berries and feathers runs all the way round, painted with the artist's typical attention to detail. With 67 colours and many close shades, the result is almost painterly, with very soft transitions.

This is a demanding project in both size and detail, best tackled calmly and in good light; on 27 count evenweave the design is usually worked over two threads with two strands of stranded cotton. All the materials, threads included, come with the kit, but the frame is not supplied. A large hoop or frame and a pair of embroidery scissors are useful too.
