A bunch of freshly picked meadow flowers – poppies, cornflowers, daisies and wheat ears – with two butterflies and a snail among the stems. The design is by Marjolein Bastin, whose naturalistic drawing and small details are easy to recognise. The work is stitched on evenweave fabric, counting the stitches from the chart.
Alongside cross stitch you will use half cross stitch, long stitch and french knots for the wheat whiskers and flower centres: all straightforward, though a couple of smaller projects under your belt will help. Remember that the fabric needs a margin around the stitched area when planning the framing; hoop and frame are not included. Framed, a piece this size works well above a sideboard or in a hallway.
