Two koi carp gliding over the pale bed of a pond, framed by open water lilies and broad green pads: a colourful design in which the orange and red of the fish stand out against the soft tones of the water. Long stitch is used for the finer details, such as the fins and a few highlights.
Linen with 12 threads per cm is usually worked over two threads with one strand of stranded cotton, keeping the design fine and subtly shaded; good light helps, and so does a hoop or frame if you prefer one. Starting with the fish and moving out to the flowers makes the counting easier. A frame is not included: the tall, narrow finished piece suits framing well.
