A goldfinch drawn with a light touch, halfway between a natural history plate and a sketchbook page: beside the bird sit an egg, its name in hand lettering and the call it is known for. The design is by Madeleine Floyd and is worked in counted cross stitch from the chart, with backstitch for the outlines and the lettering.
The hoop is included and doubles as the frame: stretch the finished piece, tidy the back and you have a small picture ready to hang. Apart from the kit you only need embroidery scissors and good light. Its modest size makes it easy to carry around as travel stitching.
