Nefertiti

Nefertiti's face emerges from a background of hieroglyphs, Egyptian wall scenes and papyrus, her beaded collar picked out in bright colours against sandy tones. The fabric comes with the background subtly printed, so the softer areas are still suggested where the stitching is sparse and the picture gains depth as the work grows.

Cross stitch is worked over two threads of the evenweave, with a little back stitch to outline the features; the threads come pre-sorted on an organiser, which helps with such a wide palette. You will also need a hoop or frame and small scissors, and the frame shown is not included: this is a large piece, made to be framed and hung.
