Owl and Autumn Leaves

A wide-eyed owl resting among long, slender leaves in autumn tones: the design comes from Marjolein Bastin, a nature illustrator known for the soft gradations she gives to feathers and foliage. The threads arrive already sorted on a card organiser, so you can begin stitching straight away.

The 27 count evenweave is usually worked over two threads with one strand of stranded cotton, giving fine coverage and room for the gentle colour changes this kind of subject needs. A hoop or frame and good light make the work easier. The frame shown in the photo is not included: once finished, lace the piece over board and frame it, perhaps with a pale mount.
