A richly coloured portrait: the girl's coppery curls weave through peacock feathers, with highlights worked in gold metallic thread. The dark fabric is left unstitched in the background, so the skin tones and the greens of the feathers stand out, shaded across a wide range of colours.
This is a demanding project, intended for stitchers who already know counted cross stitch: many colour changes, close shading and some long stitches for the details. Evenweave is usually worked over two threads with one strand of stranded cotton. A hoop or frame and good lighting make the work easier; the frame shown in the photo is not included.
