Solid Red

Solid Red is a plain shade from the Tilda Basics range: a full red with a raspberry note, made to sit alongside the Tilda printed collections without competing with them. In a quilt it gives the prints room to breathe, as a block background, for sashing or for the final border; in creative sewing it is handy for linings, cushion backs, hearts and Christmas decorations.

It is a medium-weight cotton, easy to sew by machine or by hand and pleasant to quilt, since quilting stitches show up clearly on a solid ground. As with any deep red, wash it on its own the first time and in any case before cutting, so the slight shrinkage happens before you sew. For borders and long strips, choose one of the larger cuts.
