Three open poppies and a bumblebee, taken from a watercolour by Hannah Dale. The stitching is worked on fabric that is already printed with a speckled background, so the design gains depth without extra stitching: alongside full cross stitch you will use back stitch for the slender stems and a few French knots, both covered in the instructions.
Once finished, the embroidery is mounted in the tri-fold card supplied, which folds shut behind the work and frames the design; the alphabet lets you add a name or a date. It is a short project, good for a birthday or a thank-you, or for trying the techniques before a larger piece. A small hoop and a pair of embroidery scissors make the stitching easier.
