A portrait full of colour: a man's smile under a striped hat, surrounded by shawls and necklaces running through every shade of the rainbow. The interest lies in the shading, built up from a wide palette of threads, while back stitch defines the features of the face and the finer outlines.
Evenweave is usually stitched over two threads, so it helps to keep the work taut in a hoop or frame (neither these nor a picture frame are included). On a design this size it pays to start from the centre and mark off the chart rows as you go. Once finished, the piece looks best framed.
