A flight of stone steps framed by geraniums, white blooms and lush foliage, with an old door and a carved stone mask behind: a richly shaded scene worked entirely in counted cross stitch, following a large-square chart that stays readable even in the busiest areas.
The 27 count evenweave is stitched over two threads, so the crosses come out smaller than on 14 count Aida and the picture gains detail. Its size and colour count make it a project for someone with a few pieces already behind them; you will also need a hoop or frame and small scissors. A frame is not included: the finished work is usually mounted and framed as a picture.
