Two bookmarks worked in counted cross stitch on evenweave fabric, with a few long stitches for the petal details: summer flowers, leaves and butterflies on a pale ground, each framed by a coloured border. They are small pieces that travel well in a bag and can be finished in a couple of evenings, so they suit stitchers with little experience too.
Making up the bookmarks calls for materials that are not in the kit: fabric or felt for the backing, a piece of stiff card if you like, and a length of ribbon for the top. A small hoop or frame also helps keep the fabric taut while stitching. Finished, they make a welcome present for a reader, especially tucked into a new book.
