A softly shaded portrait, where the hair and the dahlia petals move gently from one tone to the next. To achieve that effect the linen is worked over one thread, with a single cross stitch at each intersection, and the forty shades of stranded cotton need to be followed carefully. A few french knots and long stitches finish the small flowers and the finer details.
This is a project for stitchers who are already comfortable with counted work and enjoy large pieces. You will also need a hoop or frame and a small pair of scissors, and the frame shown in the photo is not included: given its size, the finished piece looks its best framed with a mount.
