Dancing in New York

A night-time city scene, with the couple dancing in the rain and the warm glow of the street lamps reflected on the wet road: the amber tones and the pink dress give depth to a piece that stays straightforward to stitch. Cross stitch, half cross stitch and back stitch are combined to build up the shading and the outlines of the buildings.

The evenweave is worked over two threads, following the chart; all you need to add is a hoop or frame and a small pair of scissors. A frame is not included: with its tall proportions the finished work suits framing as a picture, perhaps with a pale mount to set off the warm tones.
