Two hummingbirds chase each other among open peonies: the dark ground sets off the shaded petals and the iridescent feathers, worked with a wide palette of DMC colours. Besides cross stitch the chart calls for half cross stitch and long stitch, used for the wings and the finer details, so it suits someone who has already finished a few projects.
Evenweave is worked by counting threads, usually over two threads with two strands of stranded cotton; a hoop or frame and good lighting make the work easier. The frame is not included: given its size, the finished piece lends itself well to being framed as a picture.
