Little mouse

One of Marjolein Bastin's best-loved designs: a field mouse nibbling a red apple, worked in soft shades against the pale fabric. Alongside the cross stitch there is back stitch for the whiskers and finer outlines, plus a little long stitch; both are easy to pick up and give the fur and details their lightness.

The threads come ready sorted on the organiser, so you can start straight away; you will only need a hoop or frame and a small pair of scissors. Evenweave is usually stitched over two threads with one or two strands of stranded cotton, depending on the coverage you prefer. The frame shown in the photo is not included: the finished piece can be framed or mounted on a small panel.
