Sparrows and Currant

A group of sparrows among branches laden with red berries, drawn by Marjolein Bastin in her naturalistic style: the shaded plumage and the fine twig border involve plenty of colour changes, so the design suits stitchers with some experience of counted cross stitch.

On 27 count fabric the stitches are usually worked over two threads with one strand of stranded cotton, giving crosses the same size as on 14 count Aida. The kit is complete with fabric, threads, needle and chart; only the frame has to be added, along with a hoop or frame and a small pair of scissors. Given its size and subject, the finished piece is made to be framed and hung.
