Village Rust tells the story of a small town: houses and shopfronts with their awnings, tree-lined lanes, a dog trotting across the square. The print is large and continuous, so it looks its best where it stays whole – the centre block of a quilt, the back of a cushion, a tote bag or a tablecloth; in small pieces the scene is lost, but the warm autumn colours remain.
It belongs to Village Life, the Tone Finnanger collection built around an autumnal palette of rust, ochre, teal and green and a cooler winter one, so it mixes easily with the small-scale prints of the same range. Pre-wash the fabric before cutting, so the slight shrinkage happens before you sew. For long strips, choose one of the larger cuts.
