Bellflower Sand belongs to Wallflower, the Tilda collection that takes a romantic look at the ornamental prints of the 1960s and 70s. The scale here is small and busy: tiny orange and pink bellflowers scattered among pale leaves and trailing stems on a warm sand ground. It is one of the collection's blenders, made to sit alongside the larger prints.
It works well for the small patches of a quilt, for block backgrounds, borders and backings, and for pouches, needle cases, little bags and dolls, where the print still reads clearly. It mixes with the caramel and blue tones of the collection as easily as with plain fabrics. Pre-wash the fabric before cutting, so the slight shrinkage happens before you sew.
