Two bumblebees among the petals of large lilac flowers, worked in counted cross stitch with a few long stitches for antennae and legs. The background stays deliberately light, so the subject stands out against the ivory fabric: the shading of the purples needs some care, but the large-square chart keeps it easy to follow.
Evenweave is usually stitched over two threads, giving a finer result than Aida. Besides the kit, a hoop or frame and a sharp pair of embroidery scissors are useful; the frame shown in the photo is not included. Once finished, the piece looks its best framed with a pale mount.
