A mermaid portrait set in a reef of corals, jellyfish and fish: cross stitch builds the shading of the hair and skin, back stitch outlines the details, and beads and sequins add sparkle to the jewellery and the tail. The evenweave fabric is usually worked over two threads with one strand of stranded cotton.
This is a large piece with a wide palette, so a hoop or frame and a tidy thread organiser make the work much easier. A frame is not included: once finished and pressed from the back, the embroidery is ready to be mounted and framed as a picture.
