An autumn still life by Marjolein Bastin: red and white toadstools, a branch of yellowing leaves and a snail among the rose hips, worked with the softness of a watercolour. There are many shade changes and back stitch outlines throughout, so it suits stitchers who already have some experience of counted cross stitch.

On evenweave the stitching is usually worked over two threads; you will also want a hoop or frame and a small pair of embroidery scissors. The frame shown in the photo is not included: once washed and pressed on the reverse, the finished piece can be framed or made up into a cushion or a wall panel.
