Margot Rust belongs to Village Life, the Tilda collection that looks back to old wallpapers and pretty vintage dresses. Rust-red roses and buds climb along slender stems with blue-green leaves on a cream ground: a medium-scale print, densely drawn but tidy, that still reads well when cut into small pieces.
It is an easy fabric for quilt blocks, cushion backs and linings, and just as good for aprons, bags and clothes for Tilda dolls. Within the autumn palette of the collection it sits happily with ochre, green and teal, while the pale background keeps the combinations light. Pre-wash the fabric before cutting, so the slight shrinkage happens before you sew.
